Ice Energy to Provide Smart Grid Perspective on the Future of Energy

Utility industry innovators deliver closing keynote at 2009 PI System User Conference

SAN FRANCISCO – April 1, 2009 – Brian Parsonnet, Chief Technical Officer of Ice Energy, and Chris Hickman, Senior Vice President, will lay out a vision for the future of integrated energy system efficiency during the closing keynote at the  2009 OSIsoft Users Conference today in San Francisco.

Hickman and Parsonnet will present a unique perspective on the opportunity to transform integrated energy system efficiency and reliability through energy storage and smart grid solutions. They will also detail how Ice Energy leverages the power of OSIsoft’s PI System in an information infrastructure that drives utility industry smart grid programs.

Ice Energy’s innovative solutions for utilities integrate the company’s effectively lossless distributed energy storage technology with an advanced software infrastructure and intelligent two-way control to permanently reshape the load curve.

“Ice Energy has partnered with OSIsoft to utilize the PI System as a key part of our smart grid information infrastructure,” Parsonnet said.  “PI’s robust security, real-time status, sub-metering, and data monitoring capabilities enable us to monitor, manage and dispatch units in the field in real time.”

Ice Energy’s solutions enable utilities to unlock the full potential of distributed load management by addressing peak system cooling loads -- often, the single biggest challenge in their demand portfolio. When utilities use cleaner, less expensive off-peak power to produce and store energy at night for use during peak demand periods, they permanently lower peak demand, reduce carbon emissions, and lower service costs.

As a critical renewable portfolio resource to complement intermittent, off-peak renewable portfolio assets such as wind and solar, Ice Energy empowers utilities to shift significant load to off-peak hours when the energy delivery system is both underutilized and more thermally efficient.

“We are excited to continue building our partnership with OSIsoft,” Hickman added. “Their industry-leading capabilities are an integral part of our ability to deliver to utilities a scalable, reliable and cost-effective answer for leveling system load, and transitioning to a cleaner, smarter, more sustainable power grid.”
