Expanded smart grid capabilities for Ice Bear storage systems and introduction of Project Cool Move deployment program highlight conference activities WINDSOR, CO – January 28, 2011 — Ice Energy, a leading provider of smart grid-enabled, distributed energy storage solutions to the electric utility industry, will be showcasing the CoolData® Controller for its Ice Bear energy storage systems at the 2011 DistribuTECH Conference in San Diego (Booth 733). The utility-compatible smart grid CoolData Controller provides sophisticated processing functions and a two-way communications network that controls the Ice Bear system, manages connected rooftop packaged AC units, and serves as a gateway for managing additional demand and consumption on installed buildings throughout a utility territory. Functionality of the CoolData Network is enabled by a web-based remote terminal unit (RTU), a data logging control system (a SCADA system architecture), and OSIsoft’s secure PI System® real-time data management infrastructure. “The CoolData Controller is what makes each Ice Bear unit an intelligent device,” said Brian Parsonnet, Chief Technology Officer of Ice Energy. “This distributed energy resource technology adds tremendous value to the Ice Bear by providing the utility with unprecedented control in managing peak energy consumption by creating a scalable bulk energy storage solution.” The company will also be introducing Project Cool Move, a turn-key deployment program for utilities to enable the wide-scale deployment of its distributed energy storage system. A complete end-to-end program designed to make the installation of Ice Bear distributed energy storage systems on commercial and industrial customer sites fast, simple and straightforward for utilities, Project Cool Move covers all steps from customer recruitment and site acquisition, through engineering and permitting, to installation and performance assurance. Also of note; Joe Desmond, executive vice president at Ice Energy will be a featured panel speaker in a presentation about distributed energy resources (DER) called “Merging Technical and Business Processes for Distributed Resource Integration,” held February 1 at 3:00 PM. Desmond will be joined by; Andrew Ott, Senior Vice President of Markets at PJM, Travis Rouillard and Senior Vice President of Demand Response at UISOL. The panel moderator is Terry Nielson, Senior Vice President of UISOL.
