Roles and Responsibilities
Don provides executive strategic advisory and proprietary research services to retained clients. Don combines industry thought leadership, extensive engineering and enterprise software experience, and a track record of successfully growing companies and creating value for stakeholders in service to clients. His work spans a wide range of smart grid initiatives, and he is a frequent public speaker and contributor to national smart grid forums, policy working groups, and trade associations and journals. As co-founder and managing director of The McDonnell Group, Don also guides daily operations and business development for the company.
Professional Background
Don brings two decades of technology management experience to his role at The McDonnell Group. He has built technology companies in the energy and enterprise software sectors, including work in nuclear, T&D asset management, outage and network management, energy trading and risk management, SCADA, and advanced metering related companies. Don served as chief marketing officer of CES International, now Oracle network management, pioneering utility distribution system concepts that now underpin many smart grid programs across the industry. Don led corporate marketing for utility focused enterprise software company TSW, which led to a 1997 S-1 IPO filing and the subsequent sale of the company for $290 Million. Prior to The McDonnell Group, Don served in London as an executive at KWI, gaining knowledge of European utilities and the European Union CO2 marketplace.
