Catching Big Fish at DistribuTECH 2011
Following our successful Big Fish II event for over 80 clients and friends at the Oceanaire Seafood Room on Monday evening, The McDonnell Group's energy team attended DTECH this year supporting our largest number of presenting and exhibiting clients to date. Don McDonnell co-presented a research paper with Ventyx, an ABB company on a panel with Southern California Edison and Ontario's Hydro One.

Other select client highlights included UISOL's demonstration of automated demand response, Powel's introduction of enhanced vegetation management, Ice Energy's launch of Cool Move, Mueller's smart water solutions, EFACEC ACS's launch of Centrix, and Cohesive & Blue Pillar business development among many other customers also in attendance.

Consumer Confab
McDonnell Group client the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative (SGCC)held its Partnering for Progress Symposium on Monday, January 31st where the collaborative's downloadable State of The Consumer Report was issued. Over a dozen press and analysts joined a 150+ person crowd for the highly successful first annual event. Media coverage of SGCC has been strong in recent weeks with 18 featured print and online articles and blogs appearing in a wide range of outlets including GreenBiz, Intelligent Utility, and Electric Light & Power. SGCC named Patty Durand executive director in January 2011.

Client Spotlight: Powel Vegetation Management Powel, Inc. featured an updated version of its Vegetation Management system at DistribuTECH 2011. It is the first enterprise software system of its type purpose built to address utility specific requirements for planning, visualizing, executing, and documenting utility vegetation maintenance and management programs in support of NERC mandates. The solution is already in production at three east coast investor owned utilities that collectively serve over 5 million end customers.

Auto-DR Leader UISOL Taps Mahling 
At DTECH, long time TMG client Utility Integration Solutions, Inc. (UISOL) named Dr. Dirk Mahling SVP to lead its software unit's deployment professional services including design and implementation of automated demand response (Auto-DR) processes and systems. Mahling was most recently chief technology officer at CPower, a leading demand response aggregator acquired by Constellation Energy. Tendril also announced its residential price responsive demand response project with UISOL.

Glendale's Smart Path to Smart Grid
Ice Energy and Glendale Water and Power celebrate the first utility-scale deployment of grid connected distributed energy storage on a multi-megawatt scale at a celebratory lunch February 22 at the Glendale Embassy Suites Hotel. Glenn Steiger, general manager of Glendale Water & Power, Frank Quintero, council member for the city of Glendale, and Joe Desmond, executive vice president at Ice Energy will share insights on this cost-effective alternative for meeting California's growing peak energy demand and a foundational step toward a city run entirely on smart energy.
